Worst Airport to be stranded in when flight is cancelled - Pula, Croatia

Inside of a Ryanair plane.

Not that I had that many flight cancellations experience in my whole life. But this was one of the worst. And it was our first time taking a flight out of Croatia in a Croatian airport.

Let's talk about the airport. It is located in Pula (Istrian Peninsular), Croatia. It is located at 10 minutes bus ride from Pula town. See this link for how to get in and out of this airport. In the tiny little airport or should I say airplane depot, there's only a caffee. Few small counters - car rental, ryanair. Very miserable facilities.

Well.. here's the rest of our story. Our flight was cancelled. We did call earlier in the morning to check before we embarked on our hour drive to Pula from Rijeka. Only to find out when we arrived at the temporary Ryanair counter at the airport that our flight was cancelled. And the next flight would be three days later. We were furious as we had a connecting flight to catch at Heathrow the next day. We requested for a switch to a flight from Trieste to London but they could not do that. So we had no choice but to return home to book our flights online as there was no internet access there. And the two Ryanair staff could not give us any answers.

The whole experience caused us a lot of money and time delay. And we swore never to take any flights from Pula ever again. That much for unlucky travel experience!

Worst Place to walk on the streets - SF

Cable car ride!

If you've never been to San Francisco, you'll have expected it to be pretty much like any other city but you are wrong. The whole city is built in a valley. Roads can be as steep as 45 degrees. So you either take a transport to go uphill or simply strain your knees.

I was there twice and it is a beautiful place to walk around. But do remember which streets are steeply sloped and which is not. Else you will end up like me. Huffing and puffing just to reach the top of the street.

What can make it easier for you to get around this city is to get an unlimited one to three day pass for cable car. It's a different experience and you sure won't want to miss it when you are in San Francisco.

Have fun walking. And plan your route!!

Worst Place to go on a Beach Vacation - Arbroath, Angus, Scotland, UK

"Mummy mummy look what I found? A Head!"

I don't think you'd ever want your child to come running to you on your beach vacation with a head or other parts of a body but that was what happened recently in Arboath, a Scottish beach on 1st April 2008.

Now the beachfront has been condoned off for forensic examination. It would be a rather gruesome vacation I would tell you. And they are looking for more parts. Apparently scattered everywhere. Be careful what you picked up on your Beach vacation!

So I have to vote this place as the Worst Beach Vacation ever!

You can read more about this news through this link.

Best place for Breakfast $2 Set - Singapore

Introducing my favourite Breakfast in all the countries I visited. For $2, you can't really get much things in Singapore. Probably just a bus ticket or a one-way train ride. But in Singapore food courts and hawker centres, you can get a full breakfast set for only S$2!!! That is less then 70 pence (GBP). Great deal!

What you can get in this set:
A cup of Tea or Coffee (with/without) milk
2 slices of Toast sandwiched with our famous Kaya (Coconut-Egg Jam) & Butter
2 Soft-boiled Eggs

So what are you waiting for? Do it like the Singaporeans do when you pop by my homeland, Singapore. Oh, and most places served this breakfast set throughout the day. :)

Best /Worst Place to go for a long walk

First of all, I have to clarify. This place qualifies for both catergories - Best and Worst place to go for a walk.

Where is it? Route to Le Mont St Michel, France. This causeway with a straight road beside the walking trail leads to the famous Le Mont St Michel island. It is completely cut off from land when it's high tide. The church perched right on top of this little hill island in the middle of nowhere. It is situated on the Northwestern part of France at the Normandy coast. It is right in the gulf of Saint Malo.

Why is it the best? The sunset and undisturbed nature all the way to the island is just breathtaking. No cars except a few tourists heading their way to the island. It is a good 30 minutes walk. And trust me, if you are one of those who loves nature walks. This is it!

Why is it the worst? Nature walk has a whole new meaning! This area is populated by dear sheep. Plenty of them grazing from dawn to the sunset. Watch out drivers, there's even a sign that indicates where the little sheep would like to cross the road. And yes, they only cross there!! Amazingly, there were no shepherds or sheep dogs in sight. The little creatures simply walk here have their fill and wobble their way home. Cute sight isn't it? Wait till you see what they left behind! Landmines of sheep droppings. And I mean the whole patch of green pasture is covered with ew... shit! I was hopping around the grass, hoping to avoid as much droppings as possible. Arghs.. definitely classify as the worst walking experience. It did get better when it was dark. Couldn't see the patches anymore. Well.. we sure had a lot of work to do when we get back to the hotel.. cleaning our soles!!

Sounds interesting? Do hop over for some nature walk experience at Le Mont Saint Michel!

Best Street Caffe - Palmanova, Italy

When in Italy, never missed your chance to drink a cup of delightful cappuccino. Even when it's a street stall! One of our favourites is priced at 85 euro cents per cup but it is so wonderful!!!

Whenever we pop by Palmanova which is at the Northeastern tip close to Trieste, Italy, we have to start by at this small street stall for a cup of Macchiato! Simply heavenly if you are a coffee lover!

So it deserves the Best Street Caffe award on Travelheart Blog! Congrats!

The Worst street to look for a Toilet - Oxford/Regent Street, London, UK

As promised, I will present my first award to the famed street in London!! Known worldwide for its numerous fashion boutiques ranging from Nike to H&M. The number of people on these streets at anytime of day is unbelievably large. There are fast food joints, sandwich shops and cafes.

Why does Oxford Street deserve its award? Well.. one could walk for one kilometre without finding a single toilet!!

I personally had never tried the WC at underground so I can't tell you about my experience there. But the stench of the toilet near Haymarket was enough to kill anyone a mile away.

MacDonald's does have toilets. But most of the fast food chains have cleverly enticed those who need the loo urgently using clever tactics. For example, one must be paying customer to obtain the key to the WC at their counter.

I have to mention there is one shopping complex (sandwiched between two shops and located somewhere along a long row of shops) that has toilets for use. But be prepared to fork out 40p per usage. Yeah.. what a ripoff.

My only solution when I'm on Oxford/Regent streets on my big shopping spree is to avoid drinking too much water. If not, hop down to Leicester Square or Piccadilly Circus area where there are plenty of restaurants and cafes. Grab a quick coffee and use the toilet! Oh Bladder problem.

Good luck and happy shopping in London!
